Web marketing is about delivering useful content at just the precise moment that a buyer needs it.David Meerman Scott
Many start a blog because it is one way of driving visitors to a site. That may be true, but creating a blog alone does not either ensure rankings in search engines or traffic. Even if you post on the blog regularly, your blog post could be competing against millions of other pages on the web for the same set of keywords. Why then should Google rank you higher than others?
Merely stuffing keywords into the content to make your post rank will not work. Even if you manage to get ranked in the short term, visitors to the blog would see the keyword stuffing and that wouldn’t create a good impression. If you hide the keywords, it would be black hat SEO and you could get penalized by Google. As smart as Google’s algorithm is getting, it is now able to distinguish — usually if not always — between well balanced content and keyword stuffing. What then should a blogger do to get blog posts to rank in Google and drive traffic?
The first criteria is to ask yourself “how is my blog post different” and “What is the value my reader would get from this post?” These would probably help you create content that is likely to engage with your target audience. Content that readers like is most likely to be shared. People are most likely to forward, like and link to content that appeals to them. The first step then is to create content that would WOW your readers.
Even high quality content need not necessarily rank for the right terms. This is where blog optimization comes in. When we optimize content, we do the following for each page:
